Week 3: Mini Lesson

Echo Reading

Grade: Kindergarten

Time: 30 Minutes

Learning Objective:

·      Students will practice their reading by developing their fluency, reading orally, new vocabulary, and comprehension. 

·      Students will use phonological awareness to develop their fluency/automaticity.

Instruction Methods

·      Students will be work in groups of 3 and have a copy of the text to follow along.

·      While one student reads a line, the remaining students are tracking the words on the page with their index fingers.

·      After the reader completes the sentence, the remaining students will repeat the line and try to imitate the lead reader.

·      If students can repeat the line correctly individually, the group will move along to the next line.

·      If students have trouble, the teacher will ask students to sound out the word and underline the word for future reference.
